Getting started
What is PeakPawsTag?
PeakPawsTag is a digital pet ID platform. Each tag carries a unique QR code that links to a public profile for your pet. When a finder scans the tag, they see the information you've chosen to share and can quickly let you know your pet has been found.
How does the QR code work?
Every PeakPawsTag has a unique short code (for example PKP-XXXXXX) printed on it and encoded in the QR. Scanning the QR with any modern phone camera opens your pet's public profile in a web browser — no app required.
Do scanners need to install an app?
No. Anyone with a phone camera can scan the tag. The link opens in their browser, so finders see your pet's profile instantly.
Activating your tag
How do I activate my tag?
Create a free account, then scan your tag (or enter the code) while signed in. You'll be guided through adding your pet's name, photo, contact preferences, and any details you want shown on the public profile.
Can I have multiple pets on one account?
Yes. You can register as many pets as you like under a single owner account, each with its own tag and profile.
What if I bought a tag second-hand or it was already activated?
Tags can be claimed by a new owner only when they're no longer in active use by their previous owner. If you're stuck, contact us with your tag ID and we'll help sort it out.
Lost and found
What happens when someone scans my pet's tag?
The finder sees your pet's public profile with whatever details you chose to make visible — typically the pet's name, photo, and contact options. If you've marked the pet as lost, they'll also see an alert and any special instructions you've added.
What if my pet is lost?
From your dashboard, toggle the pet's status to Lost. The public profile updates immediately and you'll receive email alerts every time the tag is scanned. You can also see the scan history, including the approximate location if the finder opted in to share it.
Is the finder's location tracked?
Only if they choose to share it. The scan page shows a clear, opt-in button to share location — there is no silent tracking. Timestamps of every scan are always logged so you know when activity happens.
Can a finder message me directly?
Yes. The public profile surfaces the contact options you've enabled (such as email or phone). You stay in control of which channels are shown.
Privacy and security
Is my personal information safe?
Privacy is on by default. You decide what appears on the public profile through per-pet privacy toggles — name, photo, contact email, phone, and address are each controlled independently. Your home address is hidden by default and is never shown unless you explicitly turn it on.
Who can see my pet's profile?
Anyone with the QR code or direct link can see the public profile, but only the fields you've made public. Private fields and internal notes are never exposed.
How do I update my pet's information?
Sign in and head to your dashboard. You can update photos, descriptions, medical notes, contact preferences, and privacy toggles at any time. Changes go live instantly.
Accounts and sign-in
How do I sign up?
Sign up with your email and a password, or use Sign in with Google for one-tap access. You'll verify your email address before your account is fully active.
I forgot my password — what do I do?
Use the Forgot password link on the login page. We'll email you a secure reset link that's valid for a short time.
Can I sign in with Google?
Yes. Choose Continue with Google on the login screen and you'll be signed in without needing a separate password.
Tags and durability
How long does the tag last?
Tags are valid for one year from the date of activation. You'll see the expiry date in your dashboard and we'll let you know when it's time to renew. An expired tag stops resolving scans until it's extended.
What if the tag is damaged or lost?
If your tag becomes unreadable or goes missing, sign in and order a replacement. We'll link the new tag to the same pet profile so your pet's history is preserved.
Are the tags weatherproof?
PeakPawsTag tags are designed for everyday wear — including walks, swims, and adventures. As with any pet ID, occasional inspection is a good idea so you can replace any tag that has become hard to read.
